On October 7th, Playstation has released a video along with a blog post on PS5 hardware teardown. The video was showing the outside and inside of PS5 hardware. The video is presented by Yasuhiro Ootori, vice president of mechanical design at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Playstation describes their PS5 as “our most transformative console yet.” with “a well thought out, beautifully designed architecture.”

PS5 Hardware Spesifications

The console dimension will be 104mm wide, 390mm high, and 260mm deep, making it larger than the PS4. But, Ootori says that PS5 performance will compensate for its large size. PS5 comes with a USB Type-C port and a USB Type-A port in the front, then 2 USB Type-A ports, a LAN port, an HDMI port, and AC IN connector on the rear.

After that, Ootori shows that PS5 can be set up vertically or horizontally. The base can be removed and the screw can be stored inside the base. Also, users can easily remove the white panels for cleaning the console. Inside the panels, you can find a fan, two dust catchers, and M.2 interface storage expansion.

Inside the PS5

Tearing the PS5 hardware further, Ootori continues to show multiple internal components. The fan is a 120mm diameter with a 45mm thick, double-sided air intake fan. The Blu-ray drive unit comes with 2 layers of insulator to reduce the disc’s noise and vibration.

PS5 uses AMD Ryzen “Zen 2” as its processor, which comes with 8 cores and 16 threads and runs up to 3.5 GHz. Then, the GPU is AMD Radeon RDNA 2, runs up to 2.23 GHz, and handles 10.3 TFLOPS. For the memory system, the Playstation provides PS5 with 16 GB GDDR6. PS5 also comes with 825 GB SSD.

PS5 utilizes liquid metal for its TIM to ensure high cooling performance. In addition to that, PS5 comes with a huge heat sink. The PS5 uses heat pipe, but Ootori says that its shape and airflow has made it possible to achieve the same performance as vapor chamber. Lastly, we have a 350 W power supply unit next to the heat sink.
