Even though the MCU is drifting away from some of its original stars, there are still some longtime veterans headed for appearances in the newly-named Multiverse Saga. This includes Don Cheadle’s Colonel James Rhodes, who will have at least 10 MCU appearances under his belt by the time Phase 6 ends.
Along with his Armor Wars solo series, Cheadle will join the cast of Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion, which will now be the first Disney+ show of Phase 5 in Spring 2023. He will be joined by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos. . as former Captain Marvel co-stars reunite on Earth to face the impending infiltration of the Skrulls around the world.
Don Cheadle Returns in Secret Invasion
During Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, fans can see the first footage from Secret Invasion, coming to Disney+ in Spring 2023.
GamesRadar describes how James Rhodes of Cheadle puts on his Air Force uniform, but it’s unclear how exactly his role “fits into this story.”
Don Cheadle first made his mark in the MCU more than a dozen years ago by taking over the role of James Rhodes in 2010’s Iron Man 2, which continues to make an impact throughout every phase of the MCU to this day. Having last been seen in a cameo role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Cheadle’s role will only grow in importance as he once again works with Nick Fury.
From a picture of Rhodey that leaked on the newspaper’s front page, he appears to be in London protecting the US president during a sort of “emergency summit” with the world’s top leaders. This will most likely come into play once the world finds out about the Skrulls have invaded Earth, though Rhodey’s role in the rest of the process is largely a mystery.
With the series still at least eight months away, Rhodey will become as important as anyone else to pay attention to as more information is revealed. Secret Invasion will begin Phase 5 on Disney+ in Spring 2023.
