Because one thing is the reason why many people don’t like making the Lightyear Gets Bombed Reviews happen. In case you missed this, Lightyear is the title for Captain America actor Chris Evans’ new role in the MCU. Just because he’s done in the MCU at least, for now, doesn’t mean the actor is done working with Disney.

In fact, Evans’ latest Disney blockbuster is just about to hit theaters in the form of Pixar’s Lightyear. The animated sci-fi epic has garnered mostly positive reviews, with Liam Crowley of The Direct calling it a “strong installment in Pixar’s critically acclaimed catalog.”

Report thedirect.com, The film was originally announced back at Disney Investor Day in December 2020, described as the film Andy saw from the Toy Story franchise, turning him into fanboy Buzz. Several months ago it was confirmed that the film would feature gay-kissing, prompting several international governments to ban its release.

This precise kiss has become a lightning rod for online trolls, something that (unfortunately) became commonplace when the move for representation was made in this blockbuster. But action is being taken, and the Lightyear stars are speaking out against these people.

The upcoming Pixar Lightyear film is just the latest Disney project to be bombarded with reviews because of the LGBTQ+ representation in the film. Examples of gay romance in animated features have flooded the film’s IMDB pages with 1-star reviews even before the film was released to the general public.

At the time of writing, comments and reviews are locked for the animated epic starring Chris Evans on the film database site. And none of the 1-star user reviews are currently viewable online. Evans (who plays the titular star cadet) recently told Reuters he was against people being offended by on-screen representation, calling them “idiots:” “The real truth is those people are idiots.”

The actor went on to say that “there is social progress” and that the goal is to “march forward and embrace the growth that makes us human:” “There will always be people who are afraid and unconscious and trying to keep what was before. But those people died like dinosaurs. I think the goal is to ignore them, march forward and embrace the growth that makes us human.” In The Hollywood Reporter, Producer Gayln Susman recalled that Disney was “all in favor” of films featuring gay couples, but “there was a definite refusal to do the kiss.”

However, due to an open letter from a Pixar employee regarding the on-screen representation, the kiss was abandoned. In an interview with The Guardian, Susman questioned people who were disillusioned by the relationship, asking why viewers weren’t “more upset about showing a failed relationship.” He went on to describe the lesbian couple as “loving” and “supportive,” showing Buzz “exactly what she doesn’t have:” “We have a relationship here that lasts a lifetime.

It’s loving, it’s supportive and it shows Buzz what he doesn’t have and that’s the point. We should all be very lucky to have such a relationship in our lives.” The studio “got a chance to bring [the kiss] back,” so they did.

The Lightyear film can be seen in cinemas around the world on June 17.
