In 2005, average in every way private Joe Bowers is selected to take part in a secret military experiment to put him in hibernation for a year along with a woman named Rit. The slumbering duo is forgotten when the base they are stored on is closed down and are left in stasis until 2505. When they finally wake up, they discover the average intelligence of humans has decreased so much that Joe is now the smartest man in the world.

City of Ember

For generations, a massive generator has sustained the needs of the underground city of Ember. However, the generator will only last for 200 years. Therefore, as its lights start to flicker and fade, it remains to two youths, Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow, to follow the clues that will restore light to the place.

For seventeen years, the world’s survivors are on a train hurtling around the globe creating their own economy and class system. Led by Curtis, a group of lower-class citizens living in squalor at the back of the train are determined to get to the front of the train and spread the wealth around. Each section of the train holds new surprises for the group who have to battle their way through. A revolution is underway.
