The Suicide Squad Director James Gunn Confirms Film’s Rating

James Gunn, The Suicide Squad director has confirmed that the film will be an R-rated. The director shared a little piece of information on his Twitter handle while chatting with fans, Gunn confirmed that the reboot will be rated R.

Looking to correct the many, many wrongs of 2016’s Suicide Squad, Gunn’s upcoming take on the anti-hero film, which looks set to be more of a reboot than a sequel, had long been speculated to receive an R rating, but now the director has made it official.

“Yes it’s rated R,” James tweeted on a fan’s query. The movie will be the second movie in the DC Extended Universe to be rated R after the Harley Quinn standalone film ‘Birds of Prey’, which starred Margot Robbie.

The Suicide Squad will be just the second R-rated movie in the Worlds of DC after Birds of Prey.

Recently, Gunn revealed that Sylvester Stallone is the new part of the film. Earlier, in August, at DC FanDome virtual fan convention, the full cast of the movie was released, a slew of actors including Idris Elba, Alice Braga, Nathan Fillion, Pete Davidson, Michael Rooker, John Cena, David Dastmalchian, and many others will be seen playing a seemingly new character in the film. 

New additions to the cast include Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Michael Rooker as Savant, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Flula Borg as Javelin, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, and Mayling Ng as Mongal.

Alice Braga, Sean Gunn, Steve Agee, Joaquín Cosío, Juan Diego Botto, Silvio Luna and Storm Reid also star.

The Suicide Squad is currently due for release on August 6, 2021.
