Spider-Man: Far From Home is out on theaters now. After faced with Vulture in Homecoming, Peter Parker now deals with even more dangerous villain, Mysterio. Jake Gyllenhaal is chosen to play as the new supervillain.

But, have you ever asked why did Marvel choose Mysterio as the main villain in Spider-Man: Far From Home? Is not that Spider-Man has lots of enemies which are more interesting than Mysterio?

Marvel Studio’s president, Kevin Feige, has the answers. In an interview, Feige elaborated why Quentin Beck became the main antagonist in Far From Home.

“Getting into spoiler territory, so you’ll be careful how you use this. How exciting for us to actually do Mysterio. The fishbowl illusionist who everybody rolls their eyes out in the comics; the green smoke trails, we were like, “We gotta do that. We gotta swirl them around.” Which we really wanted to do, and showcase his illusion powers in a way that it kind of was in the comics always too: science-based, not necessarily magic,” Feige said.

In the first part of the movie, Quentin and Peter are in some kind of father-son relationship. Feige also has an explanation for that. “And also to make the turn not just an obvious “Well, of course he’s going to be bad, he’s bad in the comics,” but also to make it more of a heartbreak. Because even though you know on some level it must be coming, you like that relationship so much that it hurts you when it happens,” the man added.

So, that’s the reason why Mysterio was chosen to be the main villain in Spider-Man: Far From Home, answered by Kevin Feige himself. Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Far From Home features Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon, Martin Starr, Marisa Tomei, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
