No, Superman wasn’t at the Warner Bros. DC Comic-Con show, but WB did take some of their superheroes to San Diego to spend some time in the sun. Most important are Shazam and Black Adam.
The two will complete DC’s theater roster for 2022 with Shazam! Fury of the Gods was released in December and Black Adam in October. The two heroes (played by Zachary Levi and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on the big screen) have a longstanding rivalry in the comics. Billy Batson and Teth-Adam have come face-to-face on the comics pages many times over the years, so the question of when the two will meet on screen is obvious.
Will Meet and Make Iconic Battles?
In an interview with Collider, Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg offers his thoughts on whether Shazam and Black Adam will meet on the big screen.
Sandberg told the site that “there hasn’t been any talk of that,” mentioning that “Adam Black is one of those things and Shazam is his,” so fans will have to wait and “see where things go in the future.”
Talking about where the extended Shazam family is in the sequel, Sandberg said that “They haven’t really learned how to work together” and the film is about “they have to learn to work together and become a superhero team.”
So, that’s it! There are actually no plans for a Black Adam vs Shazam fight, at least nothing that David F. Sandberg knows of. And he plays very coy, or DC hides one of their chief directors.
But the fans waiting for this final duel need not worry too much. Shazam and Black Adam are so intertwined as characters that their eventual meeting feels inevitable. So, surely in some boardroom at WB they’re planning on that. However, at this time, it might still be too early that someone like Sandberg didn’t know the situation yet.
But there’s no need to rush, as the DCEU as a whole has some bigger problems to solve before they get to Billy Batson and Teth-Adam.
