After significant production delays and being stuck in development hell for years, Black Adam will finally premiere in theaters this year. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will play the titular anti-hero alongside a star cast featuring Justice Society of America.
Exact plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the trailer has confirmed that it will dive into Teth Adam’s origins while also dealing with the consequences of his resurrection in the present. However, it’s unknown how Black Adam will impact the future of the DCEU, given that the cast and crew have been tight-lipped about their relationship with the wider franchise.
Based on The Tease, Will the DCEU Reboot?
During DC’s Hall H panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, via Comicbook, shared that Black Adam’s goal is to “usher in a new era in the DC universe.”
Johnson offered Black Adam director Jaume Collet-Serra high praise, pointing out that he was the right person to make this unique DC film which led him to ask fans:
It’s unknown if Johnson is teasing a DCEU reboot or if Black Adam is the first film set in a new timeline after Ezra Miller’s Multiverse Flash adventure.
Aldis Hodge, who plays Hawkman in the film, has also opened up about playing Carter Hall alongside other members of the Justice Society of America.
Confirmation that Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad characters Amanda Waller and Emilia Harcourt are part of Black Adam suggests that the film is still in the interconnected DCEU franchise. However, Dwayne Johnson’s comments about Black Adam ushering in a “new era in the DC Universe” could suggest that the film is an important piece in the DCEU puzzle. Black Adam will premiere in theaters on Friday, October 21.
