Electronic Arts have announced that Battlefield 2042 will feature cross-play. But, unfortunately, not all platforms will play with all others. Here at Wowkia, we will tell you the limitations of cross-play in Battlefield 2042.

Cross-play has been confirmed in a new Battlefield 2042 Briefing, But EA has announced that there will be two groups instead of one mixed group.

The first group is PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 players (PC and console players can opt-out of cross-play), and the second group is Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Because of the different versions of Battlefield 2042 in last-gen and current-gen consoles. More modern platforms will see 128 player matches, while last-gen consoles will only be 64 player games.

Furthermore, we learned that map sizes would be different across last-gen and new-gen versions of the game. Not only that but also EA confirmed that the game would feature cross-progression and cross-commerce. Any unlocks or purchases made in any version of the game (including last-gen to new-gen) will appear in all other game versions.

Having cross-platform means that EA is delaying the game’s technical playtest, previously set to occur in late July. Now confirmed for “later this summer,” the technical playtest will allow PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5 players to play together; you can sign up for the invite-only test by updating your EA Playtesting profile. The open game beta has not yet received a release date.

Battlefield 2042 is releasing on October 22 and will not contain campaign or battle royale modes. In addition, it will be including huge matches, new modes, and substantial environmental effects. You can learn more info at EA Play Live on July 22.
