The latest Doctor Strange film as a direct sequel to Doctor Strange (2016) introduces several superhero characters that we haven’t seen before. One of them who became a member of the Illuminati is Black Bolt who is also the King of the Inhuman race.
The second act of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness features Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange and Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez in the alternate universe known as Earth-838. Prior to being revealed in the film, Anson Mount, who played Black Bolt, had a history with the character Black Bolt, as he played in the ABC series Inhumans.
While the character we saw in Doctor Strange 2 recently tragically passed away, Mount has recently expressed interest in returning to the MCU.
Will Anson Mount Return to the MCU?
Daniel Rasmus shared via Twitter that he was able to speak to Black Bolt actor Anson Mount at San Diego Comic-Con about a possible return to the MCU. Mount previously expressed his gratitude for being able to return as Black Bolt on social media, calling his MCU return “an honor:”
If Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios wanted Anson Mount back as Black Bolt, it wouldn’t be an uphill task in the slightest. The version of the character seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes from Earth-838, a completely different universe from what fans are used to seeing, namely Earth-616.
That is, the death of Black Bolt in the film has no impact on the future of the MCU. If anything, the Earth-616 version might have nightmares about its head exploding, but that’s about it.
No one knows for sure, but including Mount in Doctor Strange 2 could be Feige’s strategic move to see how fans react to it. In short, it’s entirely possible Mount could return to the Marvel universe and reprise his role as Black Bolt in the future.
It seems the franchise will start introducing some Inhumans with Ms. Marvel, but the show revealed that he was actually a mutant. However, there might still be a connection there, and with any luck, Mount will get what he wants.
